State pushes oil, gas fee increases as EPA flags Permian air quality violations

A joint investigation between the New Mexico Environment Department and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found air quality violations at more than half of inspected facilities in the state’s portion of the Permian Basin, which comes as the Department looks to up construction and emissions fees in the state to help fund what it sees as a big need for more compliance and permitting staff.
