More companies notify the state of hundreds of layoffs, furloughs in NM

As companies grapple with the fallout of Covid-19 and the effects the virus has had on their bottom lines, hundreds of New Mexico employees have been laid off in response.

For the last month, all “non-essential” businesses in New Mexico have been closed in an effort to stem the spread of the virus. And tens of thousands of people have filed for unemployment benefits in New Mexico in recent weeks, far exceeding the typical rate of claims.
