A lifeline in long-term care: One woman’s journey with New Mexico’s ombudsman program

Several years ago, Kimra Ray (now age 69) found herself in a nursing home during a difficult time in her life. It was a big adjustment, and she had trouble communicating effectively with the staff about various issues, including her medication. Ray’s daughter told her about the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department’s ombudsman program and encouraged her to call. Ray took her daughter’s advice, it helped, and later, she moved to an assisted living facility.
