Five New Mexico tribal communities awarded federal money for housing projects

Five tribal communities in New Mexico will receive federal money to help them through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which is nearing the start of its third year.

The nearly $5 million will come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Indian Community Block Grant-American Rescue Plan.

Among the tribal communities receiving awards are:

Laguna Housing Development, which will receive $1.035 million to construct three modular homes.
Mescalero Apache Tribe, which will receive $1.035…
