Albuquerque is still paving the way for U.S. auto theft, ranking top in the nation, according to new data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
But the rate of auto theft in the Albuquerque metro area has decreased 27% between 2017 and 2018.
The Duke City area had 7,146 known auto thefts last year, down from 9,839 the year prior, according to NICB data, making Albuquerque the only Southwestern metro to make the list. The data includes Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties.
