Virgin Galactic announces plans for powered test flight from New Mexico's Spaceport America

Virgin Galactic announced plans for a test flight later this month at Spaceport America during a third quarter conference call Thursday, the latest spaceflight in a string of test launches.

This one, however, is different.

The powered launch will be the first to take place at the Spaceport, which has seen unpowered glide flights in the past. The development is the latest step forward for the about $220 million Spaceport, which has been criticized for its lack of activity in the past.
