While employees and employers are familiar with the terms sick leave, annual leave, and medical leave, New Mexico is also one of several states to require employers to provide an employee with domestic abuse leave. The Promoting Financial Independence for Victims of Domestic Abuse Act (Act) was enacted in 2009 with the intent of allowing those affected by domestic abuse to take leave from work to attend court proceedings and other legal activities that may stem from the abuse.
