What the new minimum wage means for local business

New Mexico’s new minimum wage will be $9 an hour once the calendar turns to 2020.

On Monday, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law the state’s first minimum wage increase since 2009, bumping up the pay from $7.50 an hour to $9 an hour. The state will also see a gradual increase to $10.50 in 2021, $11.50 in 2022 and $12 an hour in 2023.

Raising the state’s minimum wage was a key priority for Lujan Grisham as she was sworn into office in January, calling $7.50 an hour a “poverty wage.” Juan…
